Should I get an airbrush tan?

I am going on vacation and would like to have a nice tan before I get in a bathing suit. The problem is that I am higly likley to go swimming in a pool and in the ocean. There is a jacuzzi in our room and hot tubs on the resort. Do you think getting the tan would be a waste of my time and money because it will wash right off as soon as I get there? Or will it last even after swimming?
